Jim moved to California eleven years ago to live the Silicon Valley dream and promptly started singing in choirs.
By the time 2010 rolled around, he was spending three nights every week singing, and two of those choirs also included Maika's uncle Paul.
The line “there's somebody I think you should meet” was uttered at one point. Or maybe more than one point.
Maika came to California to go to college at Berkeley, and she occasionally participated in some choral singing as well.
Shortly before she graduated in 2010, her uncle Paul told her she had to come along to see one of his choirs perform at the Harmony Sweepstakes in San Francisco.
The line “there's somebody I think you should meet” was uttered at one point.
In the lobby after the show, Maika and Jim met each other for the first time.
First, to Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado in 2010, where Maika was spending the summer.
Then to eastern Oregon in 2012, where Jim got to join Maika and her family on a backpacking trip in the Eagle Cap Wilderness.
In 2013 they went to Turkey and Cyprus with Jim's family and went up another mountain.
The following year, they went biking with friends for a week in Belgium, with a stopover in South Korea on the way there.
Two years ago, they had a chance to see the great pyramids in Giza.
They boarded a very magenta plane and rode it four thousand miles to the northeast.
A day later, they took their first waterfall selfie.
It was a big, beautiful waterfall.
After seeing even more beautiful waterfalls, they took off across a meadow.
It was almost too beautiful to imagine.
You won't believe what happened next.
Join us and our families later this summer as we finally get around to what everybody has been awaiting for the last seven years.
At long last, we're getting married.
